Frequently Asked Questions - CommuniCare Advantage

Am I eligible for CommuniCare Advantage? 

If you live in San Diego County and you are receiving Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits (have both Part A and Part B), you can sign up for CommuniCare Advantage. It's a simple way to combine your Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits into one easy to use health care plan. 

Can I still go to my regular doctors?

Yes, as long as your doctors are part of our CommuniCare Advantage’s provider network. CommuniCare Advantage members will have access to many hospitals in San Diego County. 

Does CommuniCare Advantage Plan include prescription drug benefits? 

Yes. As a member of CommuniCare Advantage, you will have the same drug benefits you receive under Medicare Part B and under the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. Depending on your income, the co-payments for drugs may vary from $0 to $10.35 per drug: most generic drugs have $0 copayment.

Does CommuniCare Advantage have deductibles or copays for medical services? 

No. You can enjoy the added convenience and ease of CommuniCare Advantage with no extra costs. There are no premiums, no deductibles, and no co-pays. You pay zero dollars out of your pocket for doctor's visits, emergency services or hospitalization.

 

What are the added benefits of CommuniCare Advantage? 

In addition to your current Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits, CommuniCare Advantage includes:

  • Worldwide emergency services $50,000 maximum (excludes transportation back to the U.S.).

  • Up to $300 for eyeglasses (frames and lenses) or up to $300 for contact lenses every year. 

You will also have access to a Member Services Representative 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
