Am I eligible for CommuniCare Advantage (HMO)?

Yes. If you live in San Diego County and you are receiving Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits (has both Part A and Part B), you can sign up for CommuniCare Advantage (HMO). It's a simple way to combine your Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits into one easy to use health care plan.

Can I still go to my regular doctors?

Of Course. As long as your doctors are part of our CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) provider network. CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) members will have access to almost any hospital in San Diego County, including the Scripps network of hospitals and Children's.

Does CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) include prescription drug benefits?

Yes. As a member of CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) , you will have the same drug benefits you receive under Medicare Part B and under the Medicare Part D prescription drug plan. There are no co-pays for generic drugs and a copay of either $3.20 or $6.00 per brand name drug, depending on your income. After your yearly out-of-pocket costs for drugs reach $4,350, you won't have to pay any more copays for drugs.

Does CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) have deductibles or co-pays for medical services?

No. You can enjoy the added convenience and ease of CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) with no extra costs. There are no premiums, no deductibles, and no co-pays. You pay zero dollars out of your pocket for doctor's visits, emergency services or hospitalization.

What are the added benefits of CommuniCare Advantage (HMO)?

In addition to your current Medi-Cal and Medicare benefits, CommuniCare Advantage (HMO) includes:

  • Non-emergency transportation for 18 round-trip visits to the doctor per year.
  • Annual home safety assessment including installation of bathroom and/or shower grab bars (not to exceed $800 per year).
  • Worldwide emergency services (excludes transportation back to the U.S.).
  • Unlimited mammograms, prostate and PAP exams.

You will also have access to a Member Services Representative 24 hours a day, seven days a week!
